At Retallack Resort near Newquay, Cornwall, Giles Davies has undertaken many schemes with Aria and more recently Away Resorts. Due to their stellar reputation from extensive previous works, the company was entrusted with the design and build of an existing lodge type. Giles Davies undertook a complete redesign, offsite manufacture, and delivery, successfully reducing costs, enhancing the quality of specifications and build, and minimising onsite finishing and handover times.

Utilising their in-house architectural design team and trusted external design consultants, Giles Davies reviewed Aria's existing lodge design. Their familiarity with the site through extensive civil and refurbishment works allowed the team to rationalize the design and construction, improving the adequacy of the specification to ensure better performance and suitability for the heavy holiday market.

The redesigned lodge was manufactured at Giles Davies' facility in South Wales. The unit was produced in a controlled factory environment to meet exacting ICW warrant standards. Key elements of the project included:

Steel Chassis System: The unit was built on a reworked steel chassis system, allowing for easy transportation and siting.

Composite Timber Frame: The main structure featured a composite timber frame clad in the company's signature charred timber larch.

Offsite Manufacturing: The clever design and execution offsite, combined with the rationalisation of delivery logistics, ensured a Just in Time delivery approach. This resulted in only one week of onsite finishing, marking the most efficient delivery and handover of any of their previous models.

Giles Davies undertook all design and construction roles from inception to delivery, ensuring the project was warranted under ICW and Building Control. The offsite manufacturing process not only drove down costs but also significantly improved the quality and efficiency of the build. This project stands as a testament to Giles Davies' ability to innovate and deliver high-quality results in the holiday lodge market.
